Australia has entered recession for the first time in nearly 30 years. COVID-19 is not just hurting us, but developing countries and aid donors globally. In our neighbourhood, many Pacific economies are reeling from the drop in tourism and hit to jobs, while other countries are struggling to contain the pandemic itself. Some have faced a health and economic crisis on top of natural disasters and climate change impacts. Meanwhile, Australia’s aid budget has already sunk to historic lows as a percentage of Gross National Income after seven years of cuts.
2020 has been a year like no other, including a delayed October budget. But our annual aid budget breakfast is back, via webinar — BYO breakfast!
Join us on Wednesday 7 October, the morning after the Federal Budget is delivered, as the Devpolicy team goes through the numbers to find out what the future holds for Australia’s aid engagement.
Note: Due to a lack of information about how much aid budget documentation will be provided this year, this event may be cancelled or postponed.
The event will be a public webinar and will be recorded. The recording will be made available after the event through the Development Policy Centre website (https://devpolicy.crawford.anu.edu.au).
